Your tour starts with a pickup from your hotel at 9am. Your English-speaking driver will take you to the following attractions:

Kalaniya Rajamaha Viharaya Temple, one of the most revered temples for the Buddhists in and around Colombo. Is is said to have been made sacred during Lord Buddha's final visit to Sri Lanka. After, visit several other religious monuments, such as Parvathi Hindu Temple, St. Anthony's Church, Gangaramaya Temple, and the island temple of Seema Malaka.

Proceed to Apegama, a replica of the villages of old day Sri Lanka, and see the Parliament of Sri Lanka. Around 1pm, you will stop for lunch at Rajabojun Grand Buffet to enjoy a Sri Lankan meal.

Your tour starts when you are picked up from your Kandy hotel at 8:00am. You will be first visiting Embekke Temple, getting there at 8:40am. The woodworking of Embekke is unique and perfectly done and several detailed woodcarving panels decorate the pillars, walls and roof. After going around Embekke Temple you will be leaving for Gadaladeniya Vihara at 9:10am.

You will get to Gadaladeniya by 9:30am. Gadaladeniya Temple was built just before Embekke in the early 14th century. It was the creation of a South Indian architect, and the magnificent giant golden Buddha statue, slightly worn but still visibly detailed sculptures and paintings and the interesting main stupa structure with its four satellite stupas are a historic feast for your eyes. You will finish viewing Gadaladeniya by 10:00am and leave for Lankatilaka Vihara.

You will get there by 10:40am. Lankatilaka Temple was built by the same king who built Gadaladeniya Temple during the same period. This temple too was the creation of another South Indian architect. The temple was built on uneven bedrock with a granite foundation. It originally had four stories, only some of which are accessible today. The entire temple has a somewhat palace-like architecture, and the image house is especially beautiful. After viewing Lankatilaka you will be leaving at 11:30am for Degaldoruwa Cave Temple.

You will be getting to Degaldoruwa by 12:30pm. This temple was built in a cave dug into a large rock. Degaldoruwa Cave Temple is famed for its detailed Kandyan style paintings which were restored by the Italian expert Dr. Luciano Maranzi. See the colorful paintings on Buddhism in the Kandyan era, which cover the insides of the temple entirely. After seeing this awe-striking sight you will be moving back to Kandy City at 1:00pm.

You will be back in Kandy City by 1:30pm, where you will be taking a break of an hour to have lunch at a restaurant of your choice. After lunch you will be visiting the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Temple of the Tooth at 2:30pm. The temple was once the royal palace complex. It houses what is believed to be the sacred tooth relic of Buddha. The entire sprawling complex shows its royal roots with the white, gold and wooden architecture.

You will finish off the tour of the Temple of the Tooth Relic at 3:30pm. At this point you will have the option of returning to your hotel completing the tour or continuing on to an optional gems and crafts tour. If you are interested in continuing, your guide will take you to a gem museum where a lapidary will give you an exclusive guided tour and also to some of the best craft workshops where you receive a tour as well as an opportunity to purchase some of the products. Your tour will be starting at 8:30am, when you get picked up from your hotel in Kandy. Your first stop will be the Royal Botanical Gardens of Peradeniya (own expense). You will get there by 9:00am. The gardens have a long history dating back to the British era. One of the most important roles that the gardens played was when it was used as the Allied Forces Headquarters for the Asian region during World War II. Now it’s a botanical garden with the thousands of plant species adding to its beauty. You will spend approximately three hours going around the vast gardens and increasing your botanical knowledge.

From the botanical gardens, you will be traveling on to visit the Sri Maha Bodhi Vihara in Bahiravakanda. This monastery placed on a hill is used as a meeting center for National and International Buddhist Relations. The monastery boasts a giant Buddha statue that can be seen from all over Kandy. You will be able to climb up outside to reach a viewpoint that gives you the ultimate scenic views of Kandy. You can take some good photographs there. You will finish viewing it by 12:35pm and move down into the city.

Once you arrive, you can have lunch at a place of your choice in the vicinity of Kandy.

At 2:00pm you will be visiting the UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Temple of the Tooth Relic (own expense). The temple has a burgeoning history spanning several centuries and is the home of the Sacred Tooth Relic of Buddha. It is placed in the former royal palace complex of the Kandyan kings. The beautiful buildings of the complex still show their royal roots in their architecture.

After spending an hour sightseeing the Temple of the Tooth, you will be going to see some technical presentations on the gem industry and wood crafting. After attending both presentations you will attending the Kandy Cultural Show at 5:00pm.

This famous show will give you the opportunity to watch various traditional Kandyan dances and acts, such as the Kandyan dance, the demon dance, the fire dance, and much more. Once the show is complete you will be returning to your hotel in Kandy at 6:00pm, completing your tour.

You will start your tour at 9:00am when you are picked up from your hotel in Kandy. You will proceed to Euphoria Spice and Herbal Gardens in Matale, which is the first place in your itinerary. You will get there by 10:00am and will go on ‘The Spice Tour’, an educational tour that shows you the spices and herbs of Sri Lanka and how they are grown and processed at the Spice Garden. You will also learn how to use them to their best effect. Afterwards you will get an opportunity to make purchases of various fresh spices and herbal products.

After finishing the spice gardens tour at approximately 11:30am, you will be moving back to Kandy to visit the Jayamali Batik Factory. You will get there by 12:3 pm. Though it is called a factory, this craft industry is not as large scale as you would expect from its name. Instead it involves a few expert craftspeople, usually women, and a few apprentices. You will get to see the elaborate batik-making process with its detailed crafting. You will also have a chance to purchase some beautiful products made with batik fabrics; such as wall hangers, table cloths, clothing and etc.

After a one-hour visit to the batik factory, you will go for lunch at 1:30pm. You can choose to have lunch at a place of your choice according to your own affordability. The Cinnamon Citadel, Mahaveli Reach or Helga’s Folly are recommended for a delicious lunch.

At 3:00pm after lunch, you will be visiting a Ochre Wood-carving center. You will spend an hour at the center and see the process of woodcarving and get to know more about the types of wood used. You will be able to buy purchase some carved wooden souvenirs, if you so wish.

At 4:00pm you will leave the woodcarving center to visit the gem museum, which you will reach by 4:2 pm. You will spend a fun hour and a half at the Tiesh Gem Museum, increasing you knowledge on the gems of Sri Lanka, and the gem crafting process. You will also be able to purchase both crafted gems and gem studded jewelry at the retail shop attached.
